About Us
When you are making a decision to spend money on your septic system we thought it would be important for you to find out who we are, how long we have been in business, and our experience and qualifications, before you place your trust in us. Here are the answers.

Septic Genie was formed about three years ago by Michael Grubb, "me," with a team of other septic professionals.

I am a NAWT Certified Septic System Inspector (NAWT Certification No. 108970 IC). NAWT (National Association of Wastewater Transporters, Inc.) is the leading national organization in certifying septic system inspectors. You can visit their site at: http://www.nawt.org/

Part of NAWT's mission is to "Be the information center for the industry and serve as a communication and education conduit for the gamut of people from public officials to the homeowner".

One aspect of that mission is that NAWT certifies individuals as septic system inspectors and insists each inspector follows a code of ethics in order to keep their certification.

Our Septic Genie team has over 50 years of septic system experience covering all aspects of on-site wastewater treatment; this includes septic system design; installation; maintenance; repairs and troubleshooting septic problems.

We work with a variety of septic products that include conventional septic systems, aerobic septic systems; advanced treatment units; aerobic bacteria generators; sand filters; mounds and more.

One of the members of our team is Jerry Fife. Jerry is a life long licensed contractor with an exceptional knowledge of septic systems; He has shown his abilities throughout the USA and in third world countries where there is no industry support.

In 1993 Jerry decided there had to be a change in the septic industry in the USA. In 1995 Jerry invented the physical device what is generically referred to today as an "Aerobic Bacteria Generator or ABG", a term Jerry coined in 2000. He did this to keep regulators from dismissing the device out of hand. Using air for treatment was commonly termed an ATU. Using that term in discussion caused regulators to immediately become negative and cease cooperating. It worked. "What is an ABG?" asked regulators. The discussion was then open.

In 2000, Jerry contacted a past associate of his brother-in-law, a septic contractor, to see if he had any knowledge about septic tank bacteria species. Seeing drawings of Jerry's device, he asked Jerry if the device might grow a particular species of bacteria. Jerry's device did and the Pirana was born. Jerry later called this the "Pirana Method".

Having patented several other products, Jerry, along with this associate subsequently patented the Pirana. You can visit Jerry’s web site at: http://www.pirana.biz/

Jerry didn’t stop with the patent; he wanted independent third party testing to support the performance of the Pirana. In the mid 1990s, Jerry had worked with a testing organization named IAPMO (The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials).  Jerry contacted theIAPMO head of standards with who he'd worked and had contact for several years, and suggested the idea for a standard (IGC) for an ABG and a testing protocol for that standard. The idea was accepted. A standard was adopted and the testing protocol passed and the Pirana was certified.

IAPMO is a leading test facility for plumbing products and, once a product has been certified by IAPMO, it becomes part of the Uniform Plumbing Code ("UPC"). The UPC is adopted by many states as their state plumbing code. Pirana received certification from IAPMO in 2004.

From 2000 up to today, the Pirana System as the device and Method had become known, were sold through traditional marketing channels of distributors and installers.

In most cases septic tanks required some modification in order to install a Pirana and consequently were not sold directly to homeowners.

I worked directly with Jerry Fife in marketing and selling Piranas through our national network of distributors and installers. During this time we used to get a lot of calls from homeowners in areas where we did not have installers, asking if they could purchase a Pirana and install it themselves.

We were reluctant to sell Piranas directly to homeowners because we had installations variables and maintenance issues. The Pirana System was relatively easy to install if you knew the steps required. We developed an installation procedure and homeowner maintenance and support program. Jerry then looked at the basic Pirana design and figured out how to reduce its size and cost of manufacture without reducing the effectiveness.

Three years ago we decided to, pre-assemble and package the new design solely for homeowners to install themselves. We gave the product a new name and called it Septic Genie!

Septic Genie was an immediate success! It should have been, as it was a direct result of what our customers were asking for.

That's our story.

We're here to help you get your septic system fixed as we have for thousands of other people like you. We offer you sound, knowledgeable advice that you can count on based on our experience in the septic industry.

As you will have read, our product is based on thorough research, testing and several thousand installations. We didn't just grab a few parts, put them together and sell something that hasn't been tested. If you would like to know more about us, please call or email me; I have included my contact information below.
Sincerely,

Michael Grubb
